The Champagne of Watches: Hublot Classic Fusion Veuve Clicquot

Among Hublot’s many partnerships and sponsorships is its role as official timekeeper and scoreboard sponsor of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Named for and sponsored by the famous Champagne house and regarded as one of New York City’s marquee summer sporting events, the Polo Classic celebrates 10 years in 2017, and what better way to mark the anniversary than with a very special, limited-edition Hublot timepiece, available solely in the brand’s flagship Fifth Avenue boutique? Here’s what you need to know about the Hublot Classic Fusion Veuve Clicquot.

The watch, which is limited to just 10 numbered pieces, comes in a 45-mm-diameter case made of satin-finished and polished black ceramic, attached to the strap with black composite resin lugs and held together by H-shaped titanium screws. The caseback is engraved with “SPECIAL EDITION” and the watch’s limited-edition number, 1 through 10. It also features a sapphire window through which to view the movement, Hublot’s automatic Caliber HUB1155, which powers the watch’s timekeeping functions, as well as a date indication and a chronograph. With 60 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), a power reserve of 42 hours, the movement is distinguished by its winding rotor with the silhouette of a polo player on his horse.

The clear sapphire dial has polished rhodium-plated hour appliqués and hands, while the prominent, yellow-orange-lacquered central chronograph seconds hand is this special edition’s shout-out to Veuve Clicquot’s legendary Brut Yellow Label Champagne. Openworked subdials for small seconds and chronograph minutes appear at 3 and 9 o’clock, respectively, and the date highlighted in a window at 6 o’clock. The Classic Fusion Veuve Clicquot is mounted on either a black alligator strap with yellow-orange stitching, lined with black rubber; or a yellow-orange alligator strap, also with black rubber interior, with black stitching — the colors again inspired by Veuve Clicquot’s Yellow Label.

The caseback window is etched with the logo of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.

The official launch of the Hublot Classic Fusion Veuve Clicquot took place this week at Hublot’s flagship New York City boutique at 743 Fifth Avenue — which will also be the only retailer at which this limited edition will be available (price: $17,700). The event was hosted by Hublot of America Managing Director Jean-François Sberro and featured as a guest of honor the famed Argentinean polo player, and captain of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Team, Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras. Figueras (pictured trying on the watch below) announced that he has already claimed one of the 10 pieces for himself, leaving nine for sale to the public.

With collaborations with the likes of Ferrari, Shawn Carter, and PUMA behind it, its no surprise that Hublot‘s latest partnership would involve yet another elite entity. Here, the revered watchmaker teams up with high-end British retailer The Watch Gallery for a small two-piece collection. The Classic Fusion Automatic and Classic Fusion Chronograph have both been outfitted in a titanium and ceramic casing, detailed with The Watch Gallery’s signature blue at the hands, as well as a tinted sapphire crystal open caseback. While each watch boasts a bold 45mm face, the Automatic version is dashed with an black alligator leather strap, while the Chronograph gets a sportier rubber band. Limited to just 15 pieces per silhouette, look for both watches at The Watch Gallery now.
